67% of students at the college achieved A*-C A-level grades, while more than 1,000 learners completed a BTEC qualification – enabling learners to take their first steps into higher education and new careers.
Congratulations to all the students who have worked hard to achieve their goals and make their dreams a reality.
Here are some of our success stories:
The year before attending college I struggled with anxiety so was very apprehensive of starting college, but after meeting with the mental health team I was put at ease straight away.
Over my 2 years I studied there I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but through talking to tutors, open days and visitors it has opened me up to a whole world of opportunities which I wouldn’t have had without Coleg Gwent.
I have now got a business apprenticeship with GE Aerospace, which is a really good opportunity for me to start my career. I had huge amounts of support from tutors helping me prepare for the interview process. Having access to the library within college also helped with preparation by being able to access the internet and do research.
At GCSE I studied sociology and fell in love with the subject, making me want to pursue the study further. I knew very little about psychology and criminology as A Level options but when I attended an open day at Crosskeys campus the lecturers showed me how interesting they are and how well all three subjects linked together.
After studying I want to continue with criminology at Swansea university, going on to hopefully become a detective in the police force. Coleg Gwent helped me realize all the options I had for my future. Each lecturer was able to guide me in deciding what career I wanted to pursue and what courses would be the best to get me there. Beyond that, I also received masses of support regarding revision techniques, essay writing skills, organization, and emotional support. I now feel much more prepared for university in terms of both the academics and the social aspects.
Now that I’ve finished my course I’m starting University in September, studying Biology at University of Bath.
Each one of my tutors was very supportive. When I thought about applying to Russell Group universities, my tutors encouraged me to do so, believing in my ability to receive those offers even when I wasn’t sure of that myself.
If you have the time to do the course and you want to get to university, then this course is perfect.
After finishing my A-Levels, I’m hoping to go to University to study Zoology then begin a career in wildlife conservation. Throughout my time at Coleg Gwent, I was provided with lots of opportunities to gain skills that would help at University. For example, I was funded to take part in The Brilliant Club programme which allowed me to experience university-style learning with a PhD student and was recommended the Cambridge Biosciences Residential where I was able to take part in a range of Biology lectures to gain experience and skills.
I would definitely recommend Coleg Gwent for anyone considering it for their further education! The culture of my campus was supportive, collaborative and inspiring and helped me to feel confident during my time there and for the future.
After studying at college, I plan to start my Law degree at Cardiff University. For me, Coleg Gwent was instrumental in offering the support I needed in order to get there. As someone who was passionate about a career in law from the moment I began college, my teachers were always supportive and were on hand if I had any questions about how I could progress in this career.
I will never forget the welcoming atmosphere that Coleg Gwent has provided throughout my time here. From the welcoming fairs to the wellbeing fairs, I always felt seen and listened to. No matter what issue I had, there was always somebody there to offer a solution.
Coleg Gwent has never simply felt like a place of education but rather a place where I am free to think for myself, and encouraged to do so. I would highly recommend attending Coleg Gwent.
After College I’m hoping to go to Cardiff University to study a Masters in Mechanical Engineering with a year in industry I’m hoping then to go into the Formula 1 field. College has helped me so much in preparing for this in both education and skills. The main thing college has given me to prepare for my future is confidence. I believe my time at college has given me so much confidence in every aspect because of the supportive environment where you are encouraged to pursue anything to want.
I would encourage everyone to be engage and participate in college life. Always get involved and apply for every opportunity because they can open so many doors and give you so many experiences. I’ve been able to be a part of so many amazing things at the college by just joining in and I believe that it makes your college experience so much more valuable.
After my level 2, I am progressing on to my Level 3. I have an interview for an animal care assistant at PDSA hospital in Cardiff where I will continue to grow.
Being back at college has been so uplifting. I feel back on top of my life getting where I want to be.
Take the time to progress no matter how old you are. Only you can make that decision to make your life move in the right direction.
