Learning centres on College's investment

“Coleg Gwent students can now take advantage of the new £2.5 million learning centre at Usk campus, as part of their course.
Tim Smit, creator of The Eden Project and founder of The Lost Gardens of Heligan, unveiled the new learning centre to an audience including the Mayor of Usk, councillors from Torfaen and Monmouthshire and others.

About the centre

The new £2.5 million learning centre was completed in June this year, just 10 months after building work had started. More than 270 students who are enrolled on land based, sports and animal care courses will use the facilities at the new centre as part of their studies. This is in addition to other specialist facilities, which include a working farm, a dedicated equestrian centre, and a full range of animal care facilities as well as the Blue Cross cat rehoming centre.

Coleg Gwent Principal, Guy Lacey, said: “”The College is very pleased to have self-funded the centre as part of our ongoing investment in our current and future students. Our new learning centre is larger than its predecessor and equipped with the latest technology including automated check in/check out software for books, classroom mobile devices and high grade Wi-Fi throughout the building.

“We’re trialling a range of innovative, digital equipment with our students, with a view to incorporating these in the new Torfaen campus when it opens in Cwmbran in 2020.”
