Higher Education Bursaries

We are delighted to confirm that we will be offering Higher Education Bursaries to support learners who wish to study with Coleg Gwent. They are available to learners applying to study with us at the bursary specific designated level from September 2025, funds will be offered on a first come first served basis, in the following areas:

Higher Education Subject Progression Bursary

For students undertaking a level 4, full time Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent in one of the following subjects:

  • Healthcare Practice (to include Youth & Community Work, Health & Wellbeing and Social Care Management, Complementary Healthcare Practice and Childhood Studies)
  • Digital Technologies (to include Cyber Security, Computing and Games Art & Design)
  • HNC Engineering

Coleg Gwent £350 Higher Education Subject Progression Bursary Application

Return to Higher Education Bursary

For students undertaking a level 4 full time Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent.

Applicants must be over 18 and must have been out of education for at least 5 years.

Higher Education Young Carer Bursary

For students undertaking a Level 4 full time Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent.

Applicants must be over 18 and must be able to prove they are a young carer.

Higher Education ACCESS Progression Bursary

For students who have previously studied a level 3 Access to Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent and are undertaking a level 4, full time Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent.

Progression to Level Six Study Bursary

For learners that have completed a level 5 programme of study with us, and are progressing onto a Level 6 (Top Up Year) full time Higher Education course at Coleg Gwent.

Coleg Gwent £500 Progression to Level 6 (Top up) Bursary Application

We aim to notify all successful applicants of bursaries via email by or before July 2025 and all bursary payments will be made into learner bank accounts in January 2026. Payments are subject to the learner being enrolled with Coleg Gwent and the partner University in January 2026.

Tech Valleys Higher Education Progression Bursary

In partnership with the Welsh Government Tech Valleys Programme we are delighted to offer an opportunity to apply for a £1,000 bursary, that will be awarded to successful applicants who meet the eligibility criteria listed below and detail a genuine statement about how the bursary will support your studies and ultimate career aims:

  • Applicants must live in Blaenau Gwent.
  • Applicants must have previously completed a L3 qualification at Coleg Gwent in a related subject.
  • Applicants must agree to take part in championing activities with local schools and help to create experiences/case studies to help inspire young people to study and work within the industry.

Applicants must be studying on one of the following programmes:

  • HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering
  • HNC/HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • HNC/HND Construction & The Built Environment
  • HNC/HND Civil Engineering
  • HNC/HND Cyber and Information Security
  • Foundation Degree Games Art and Design

Closing date for Applications is 1st November 2025

Applicants will be assessed based on the eligibility criteria. If more than 30 eligible applications are received the steering group of Coleg Gwent and Tech Valleys officials will make a judgement on allocation based on the candidates personal statement. We aim to notify all successful applicants by email and all bursary payments will be made into learner bank accounts at the end of January 2026. Payments are subject to the learner being enrolled with Coleg Gwent and the partner University in January 2026.

Only one bursary payment will be made to a learner in any academic year.
