In a nutshell

This course is ideal for anyone working in, or intending to work in, the Health and Social Care sector who can attend college one day a week to study. It’s a new qualification that covers the key concepts in Health and Social Care, reflecting the new ALL WALES INDUCTION FRAMEWORK FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE that now underpins many of the new qualifications in this sector.

This course is available as part of a Personal Learning Account (PLA). PLA is an initiative from the Welsh Government which offers people the chance to access free, part-time courses with flexible and convenient learning that fits around their existing lifestyle (subject to eligibility).

This course is for...

... anyone aged 19 +, living in Wales, employed, and earning less than £32,371 per year

… domiciliary care workers who haven’t yet registered with Social Care Wales and need to do so

… adult care workers who haven’t yet registered with Social Care Wales and need to do so.

Course content

The course covers a range of knowledge and understanding around health and social care, including:

  • Principles and values of health and social care [adults]
  • Health and well-being [adults]
  • Professional practice as a health and social care worker
  • Safeguarding individuals
  • Health and safety in health and social care

You’ll be assessed by a mixture of externally set case studies and multiple choice questions, and after successful completion of the course you could progress to Level 2 or 3 principles and contexts qualification or practice qualification, or find a job in the health and social care sector.

Entry Requirements

No previous experience is required for this course, only a desire to succeed in the care industry.

Additional information

A work placement on this course isn’t essential, but it would be to your advantage to have either a volunteer placement or previous experience in the care sector.
