In a nutshell

A Personal Learning Account is a new initiative from the Welsh Government. The initiative will offer people the chance to access free, part-time courses that offer flexible and convenient learning around their existing lifestyle.

Automotive technicians are increasingly needing to carry out maintenance and repair activities on electric and hybrid vehicles.

This course will give you the skills and understanding to work safely on the high voltage systems in these vehicles.

This course is for...

... those aged 19+, living in Wales, employed, and earning less than £32,371 per year

... anyone currently working in the automotive industry

... anyone whose work involves the maintenance and repair of electric/hybrid vehicles

Course content

You will be learning through a range of classroom activities and practical work in our well-equipped workshops. You will have the opportunity to work hands on with our modern electric vehicle range.

You will cover:

  • Working safely on vehicles with high voltage systems
  • Safe working during routine maintenance of electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Replacement of components in electric/hybrid vehicle high voltage systems
  • Dealing with vehicles with damage to high voltage systems

You’ll be assessed through:

  • A written exam
  • Practical assessment

On completion of the course you will achieve:

  • Level 2 Electric Hybrid vehicle routine maintenance

Or with a further practical assessment:

  • Level 3 Electric / Hybrid vehicle repair and replacement

Entry Requirements

The course is for technicians working in an automotive industry and qualified to level 3 or equivalent.

No prior knowledge of working on electric/hybrid vehicles is expected.

Additional information

Vehicles are becoming increasingly electrified, and the Health and Safety Requirements alone will require you to be knowledgeable for the safety of all.

This course will ground you in all the electric vehicle systems that require extra caution and specialist knowledge, and will build your confidence and ability to effectively, and safely, deal with all types of vehicle incorporating High Voltage Systems.
