What will I be doing?
The professional Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) full time course is offered at only a limited number of locations across south Wales.
You will study a range of essential and complex accounting tasks, including maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. Key themes included throughout this qualification include technology, ethics, sustainability and communication.
This qualification comprises four mandatory units:
• Business Awareness
• Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements
• Management Accounting Techniques
• Tax Processes for Businesses.
The four units are assessed individually through computer-based end of unit assessments.
You’ll achieve the following qualification:
- AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting
What is expected of me?
In order to access this course, you’ll have employment within the industry and the ability to demonstrate relevant skills (according to an AAT checklist for direct entry) or, the completion of the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting
Full commitment to attendance is required, as well as respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. You’ll be continually assessed and you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time.
What comes next?
- AAT Level 4 Diploma in Professional Accounting which you can do full-time or part-time at Coleg Gwent.
- On completion, students can successfully undertake a role in finance.

To study an AAT course, you need to register with the AAT as a student. You will need to register with AAT at an approximate cost of £230. You will also need to enrol with the college.
