In a nutshell

Learn about community health issues and develop a range of practical skills for use with patients. You’ll improve your general communication, team working, time management and IT skills so that you're able to work in a range of settings. This course is specifically designed to help your progress onto a health course at university such as nursing, midwifery and paramedic science.

Year One: Health, Wellbeing and Social Care Degree

Year Two: Health, Wellbeing and Social Care Degree

  • Wellbeing in Communities and Society - 20 credits
  • Professional Development 2 - 40 credits
  • Communication & Intervention - 20 credits
  • Integrated Leadership & Management - 20 credits
  • Applying Research to Practice - 20 credits

Assessment

Assessment methods replicate those activities required in the workplace such as report writing, presentations, developing academic posters, reflective writing, work-based portfolios, literature reviews, analysing complex cases and managing change.

What is expected of me?

You need a minimum of three GCSEs, Grade C or above, including Maths and English Language (or equivalent) plus:

In general, international applicants will need to have achieved an overall IELTS grade of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.

What comes next?

After this course, you can go on to employment in an assistant practitioner role in a range of healthcare organisations, such as the NHS, community health projects, private sector, rehabilitation work or social care. You can also progress to a full BA in Community Health and Wellbeing or apply for another health-related course, such as nursing, midwifery and social care.

Additional information

You’ll need to undertake work experience, as this is linked to core modules. An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required. It’s therefore necessary for learners to apply for a DBS check which will cost £55.
