In a nutshell
Classroom support in schools is vital in helping children reach their full potential – and if working in a support role appeals to you, this course will give you the knowledge you need.
You’ll be expected to gain practical experience in working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or ALN schools, as well as colleges for at least one day per week, as an employee or volunteer.
If you are studying part time then it’s important you arrange your placement before enrolling. If you are studying full time then we will arrange your placements for you.

…anyone who wants to be a classroom assistant or learning and support assistant
Course content
The course recognises the essential support work carried out in schools and colleges, and is designed to help progression and transfer across the children's workforce within schools and colleges. You will complete units throughout the year, some will be assessed in your school/college placement and most units you will produce written assignments.
It develops knowledge that will be valuable for voluntary and paid workers, through studying a range of units relating to working with children in a classroom situation.
Following on from this course, you could progress to the CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Entry Requirements
At this level you should have completed:
4 x GCSE grade D and above, or Level 1 Care course, or Level 1 ESOL Course, or Level 2 CCPLD.Learners must be able to meet the requirements of the learning outcomes and have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills needed to complete the course. If you do not possess the above qualifications but have experience within education, we can discuss your options during the entry interview.
An entry interview with the Course Leaders will be conducted to clarify this for Level 2 STL to ensure you are on the correct course.
