What will I be doing?
The BTEC Level 3 Art and Design Practice course is structured to offer a balance between theoretical understanding and hands-on practical experience. Students are exposed to a diverse range of artistic disciplines, including observational drawing, ceramics, textiles, glass, sculpture, mixed media, animation, printmaking, digital illustration. However, we encourage our learners to use materials, techniques and processes freely in order to make their own discoveries.
What is expected of me?
To enrol on this course, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include either an art-related GCSE subject, Maths/Maths Numeracy, English/Welsh First Language or an appropriate Level 2 Diploma qualification at Merit Grade with GCSEs, to include either Maths/Maths Numeracy and English/Welsh First Language at Grade C
Full commitment to attendance is required, as well as espect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation, creative ability and a desire to succeed.
You’ll also be expected to manage your time well and meet deadlines efficiently. You’ll be required to contribute to class discussions and peer assessments, take part in group and 'live ' projects and give formal and informal presentations as part of your assessment process.
What comes next?
Successful completion of the Year 1 Diploma will allow you to progress on to the second year and complete the full Extended Diploma.
Upon successful completion of the course, students have various options for further study or employment. Many students choose to pursue higher education in art and design disciplines, such as Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Illustration, Architecture, Video Game designer, Fashion Design, Interior Design, to name just a few. Others may enter the workforce directly, utilising their skills in areas like freelance design, gallery assistance, or creative industries.
Additional information
As part of the entry requirements, you’ll be expected to attend a portfolio-review interview where you’ll demonstrate your suitability for the course. In the interview you’ll present your portfolio and sketchbooks to the course team. Your work should demonstrate your ability to express and develop your ideas.
Trip fees for gallery visits and events may be payable throughout the year and studio fees are also required.
