What will I be doing?
Motorsport is one of the most dynamic and rapidly expanding industries in the UK, with ever-growing connections to other high-performance engineering sectors such as automotive, defence, marine, and aerospace. This open up exceptional opportunities for individuals looking to build careers in motorsport engineering and related fields.
Throughout the course, you will not only gain a strong theoretical foundation but also benefit from extensive hands-on experience with the state-of-the-art equipment.
In your first year, you’ll build upon your theoretical knowledge with practical activities that deepen your understanding of engineering principles. In your second year, you'll take part in additional hands-on projects, including competing in Greenpower races across the UK and participating in racing events alongside staff. These experiences provide an invaluable opportunity to apply your skills in real-world motorsport environments.
After completing the course, you’ll have access to a wide range of career pathways. You can continue your education through our HNC and HND programs, pursue university-level higher education, or enter the workforce directly through apprenticeships or employment in the motorsport and high-performance engineering industries. To develop your practical skills, you’ll have access to a state-of-the-art workshop and can take part in numerous motorsport events throughout the UK. You will also have the opportunity to bolt on additional qualifications in Composite Engineering, pneumatics and CAD, using our sector leading training facility.
What is expected of me?
You need to have a keen interest in engineering and have the enthusiasm and drive to develop your practical and analytical skills. Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject and self-motivation. Having the right attitude and enthusiasm are viewed critically by a would-be employer.
There is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework during your own time. You’ll also be expected to attend as many race events as possible and network with as many people as you can.
You'll be assessed through coursework, a portfolio and practical assessment. Upon completion, you’ll achieve:
· Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Motorsports)
· Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Motorsports)
· Welsh Baccalaureate · Maths and English (you'll be required to attend classes if you achieved less than a Grade C in these subjects at GCSE level)
· Other relevant qualifications to enhance your skill set
What comes next?
