What will I be doing?

Health & Social Care related topics: -

Unit 2: Factors affecting individuals’ growth and development across the lifespan and how this impacts on outcomes, care and support needs

In this unit, assessed through an examination, you will gain knowledge and understanding of the factors that affect an 'individuals' growth and development across the lifespan and the effects this can have on their personal well-being outcomes and care and support needs.

Unit 4: Understanding how the human body is affected by common conditions

In this unit, assessed through a non-examination assessment (NEA), you will gain knowledge and understanding of common conditions, types and causes, and will investigate how they can affect the human body, as well as examining the care and support available to individuals living with physiological conditions and the challenges they may face.

Unit 5: Supporting individuals at risk to achieve their desired outcomes

In this unit, assessed through a non-examination assessment (NEA), you will gain knowledge and understanding of factors that could contribute to individuals being at risk of abuse and neglect, the requirements of legislation, regulation and codes of conduct and practice for safeguarding and protecting individuals at risk in health and social care and approaches to securing the rights of individuals.

Unit 6: Working in the health and social care sector

In this unit, assessed through a non-examination assessment (NEA), you will build on your knowledge and understanding of working in the health and social care sector through classroom teaching and through mandatory sector engagement (minimum 100 hours, which must include 60 hours work placement). You will need to keep a reflective diary of your experiences.

This course is delivered through group work/class discussions, classroom-based learning and work experience, which is a compulsory part of the course.

You’ll be assessed by examination and NEA non-examination assessments and you’ll achieve:

  • Level 3 Health and Social Care
  • Appropriate supporting qualifications to broaden your skill set and meet the needs of industry

What is expected of me?

To enrol, you’ll need a minimum of 5 GCSEs, Grade C or above, to include Maths/Maths Numeracy and English/Welsh First Language. Students should also have at least a D Grade in Biology or Science, or an appropriate Level 2 qualification at Merit Grade with GCSE Maths/Maths Numeracy and English/Welsh.

Full commitment to attendance is required, as is respect for others, enthusiasm for the subject, self-motivation and a passion for the health and social care industry. You’ll be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you’ll continue your studies and coursework/work placement in your own time.

What comes next?

Successful completion of the Level 3 Health and Social Care: Priciples and Contexts will allow you to progress on to the second year and complete the full course programme. From there, you can go on to Higher Education or employment in statutory, voluntary and private vocational sectors in care work, community work, public service, education welfare or support work.
