This course is for...
Those who want to learn basic language skills, to have simple conversations with Deaf people for personal or professional reasons.
Course content
Learning British Sign Language, like any other second language, needs commitment and dedication in order to effectively gain the skill required. You will be required to study independently outside of classroom hours, as well as part of a group in a classroom setting.
You’ll be studying three mandatory units of the course of 16 weeks:
Introduction to BSL
Conversational BSL
Communication in BSL about everyday life.
All three units must be completed in order to gain the qualification. This qualification is designed to teach learners to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of themes that involve simple, everyday language use. They will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL.
You will be assessed through practical sessions in the classroom, as well as three short video recorded practical assessments at the end of the course, covering a range of everyday themes. On completion, you’ll achieve the Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal requirements.
