Course content
This course will prepare you for study at degree level in policing, public services, and act as a good entry to a degree in criminology.
Designed for mature students with an ongoing enthusiasm and passion for policing and the wider services, this course offers you an excellent learning experience thanks to the great facilities at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone.
You will usually have some life experience outside of mainstream education, normally having been out of compulsory education for two years or more.
The objective of the course is to provide a supportive and friendly environment for you to develop your potential and to prepare you for university level study, with many past students going on to gain degrees and other awards.
You will study a variety of units with a focus on Modern Policing, Police Powers, Perspective on Policing, Criminology, Criminal Law, Sources of Law, Understanding Crime Scenes, Criminal Psychology, Equality and Diversity, Multi-Disciplinary Teams, Fitness, Resilience and Mental Wellbeing as well as Professional Behaviours. You will also study key skill units in communication and numeracy and complete an investigative project.
You will be continually assessed and there is an expectation that you will continue your studies and coursework in your own time. All assignments must be successfully completed in order to achieve the Agored Cymru Access to Policing Diploma.
Entry Requirements
GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above is desirable.
Learners without qualifications will be required to undertake Numeracy and Literacy assessment and achieve Level 2 as a minimum as part of the course.
